Facebook just recently announced that they would be releasing Instant Games on their platform. This new initiative is called Facebook Instant Games and their name says it all. Instant games are an HTML5 gaming platform that allows users to play games on Messenger and in Facebook News Feed. What is so awesome is that there is no need for any downloads on the web or mobile phone.
This service is still in its beta testing with 17 games, including the infamous Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and Galaga. There will be a mix of legendary games with some new releases to satisfy every appetite.
These games will be released in 30 countries around the world, and the great news is that Instant Games will be available in Canada and the United States first. The main concept is to allow the users to play games within Messenger and be able to easily challenge your Facebook friends to beat your score. Brilliant, isn’t it? Facebook Instant Gaming will allow more engagements and encourage their user base to spend more time in the Facebook ecosystem. Facebook Instant Messenger has over 1 billion users a month, and the integration with Instant Game will just increase, if not explode this number.
So how are these games played? The Facebook Messenger app once updated will have a game controller icon under the box where you type new messages. Click on the icon, and choose a game that you want to play. After you finish, your friends in that conversation will see your score and can challenge you back. Facebook says people will also be able to discover games in the Messenger search field, or in the Facebook News Feed where they can play solo as well.
Adding games to Messenger is not new to Facebook. In March, they added a basketball game and then a soccer game in June. More than 1.3 billion basketball games and over 250 million soccer games have been played since then. “Instant Games” will definitely ensure that Facebook continues to dominate the messenger market and will allow them to enter the gaming world. For all the gaming lovers and PAC MAN fanatics, the fun is just getting started. Bring on the game. For us, we will be Invading the Galaxy!
